Christ Embassy Fire Under Control, Says Lagos Fire Service

Published:

THE Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) said the fire that engulfed the main auditorium of Christ Embassy Church headquarters in Oregun area of Ikeja, Lagos State, has been put under control and called for calm.

LSFRS Director, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, who confirmed this on Sunday, June 23, in Lagos, said the fire impacted the main auditorium and escalated because the fire service of the church located on Billings Way, presided over by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, thought they could handle the situation by themselves without recourse to the state fire service.

She noted that the cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained until after proper investigation.

The fire, which reportedly burned the massive edifice, broke out in early hours of Sunday, causing significant damage to the church property and apprehension in the neighbourhood.

The arrival of LSFRS firefighters at the scene curtailed the fire from spreading further, while the area was cordoned-off by the Police to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

Adeseye said: “This is to tell Lagosians to be calm, the fire outbreak at Christ Embassy headquarters in Ikeja is under control right now. As at the time of the voice note, no life involved.

“The fire is under control, at the end of the firefighting, we will update report. Let us be calm, firefighting is ongoing and it is under control.”

Videos showed thick smoke billowing from the burning auditorium.
