Borno Shuts School, Relocates Students After Boko Haram Abducted 42 In Mussa

THE Borno State Government has temporarily closed Government Day Secondary School, Mussa, in Askira/Uba Local Council, after Boko Haram insurgents abducted 42 students and children from the school.
As a temporary emergency security measures under the Safe Schools Initiative, the government also approved the relocation of students from the affected school to Government Secondary School, Uba, to continue their studies in a more secure environment.
Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation, Lawan Wakilbe, disclosed this during a visit to the affected community.
Media aide to Governor Babagana Zulum, Dauda Illiya, in a statement on Tuesday, May 26 confirmed the development, saying the relocation was necessary to ensure the safety of students following the attack.
The government delegation first visited the Emir of Uba, Ali Ibn Ismaila Mamza II, before proceeding to Mussa community, where they met with military personnel from the 115 Battalion in Askira, led by Lt-Col. Ishola Olufisola, as well as parents of the abducted students and local community leaders.
Wakilbe, during an interactive session with grieving parents, expressed the state government’s sympathy, assuring them that efforts were being intensified to secure the safe rescue of their children and wards.
The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting students and strengthening security across schools in the state, noting that the temporary closure and relocation were immediate safety measures under the Safe Schools Initiative, announcing that the relocated students would continue their education at Government Secondary School, Uba, under improved security conditions.
Parents of the abducted students had appealled to government to intensify rescue operations, describing the incident as emotionally and psychologically devastating for families.
Speaking on their behalf, Ishaku Jidaye commended Zulum’s swift response, but urged authorities to ensure the immediate rescue of the victims.
The delegation also visited Dille and Lassa communities to assess security conditions and review safety arrangements in public schools across the area, with Wakilbe directing full implementation of Safe School Initiative protocols, pending further government instructions.
Officials inspected several educational facilities, including the ongoing Government Secondary School, Uvu project; High Islamic College, Uba; the wind-damaged Government Day Secondary School, Rumirgo; and Government Secondary School, Uba, where the relocated students were expected to be accommodated.
