APC, FG Behind Crises In Opposition Parties, Alleges El-Rufai

Published:

A FORMER governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has accused government of President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) being behind ongoing crises in the Labour Party (LP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and other opposition parties.

El-Rufai, who on Monday, March 10, dumped the APC to joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP), made the allegation while speaking at the national secretariat office of his new party, alleging that the internal crisis rocking the opposition parties were being deliberately fueled by the Federal Government to weaken them ahead of the next elections.

While accusing his former party of using legal battles as a tool to destabilise opposition leadership, he said: “The crisis that… is facing in the Labour Party is contrived and funded by the government of the day. Everyone knows it.

“Jumping from one court to another is all designed to distract the party leadership from focusing on their own functions.”

The former Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister said the same strategy was being applied to other opposition parties, including the PDP and the NNPP, where factional disputes have arisen, noting: “The same thing is happening in the PDP. Even in the NNPP. There are people that have been resourced to go and cause problems in NNPP.”

But he could not give details of the alleged federal government interferences, nor did he mention names because “I don’t have the details.”
