THE Delta State Government, on Monday, March 10, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was showing workings in all sectors of the state and would not be distracted by naysayers.

Speaking to journalists in Asaba, the state capital, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, flanked by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, reiterated that the governor would reply critics with more projects and has demonstrated that last week when he led top government officials on inspection of projects across the three senatorial districts.

“When we got to Warri last week, in the course of our projects inspection, our people in Warri were magnanimous in giving us what will become our global response to anybody who decides to paint pictures that are at variance with reality.

“In their words, ‘Oborevwori dey show workings, nor be chor, chor, chor‘ (meaning it is not a question of careless talk). They have been able to prove that indeed the governor is working.

“In continuation of projects inspection, in line with our value for money, Oborevwori led us to a number of projects in the three senatorial districts.

“We started with the twin Ubu Bridges along the Ughelli-Asaba Expressway, and many were quite stunned that the bridge has been completed and we have been able to shorten travel time between our commercial city, Warri, and our capital city, Asaba.

“We proceeded to the Isoko Ring Road, where the governor is determined to fast-track the completion of the project, but needed to be sure of where were, with a view to knowing how to proceed with the project.

“We have examined it and the needful is being done by the Ministry of Works (Highways and Urban Roads).”

The commissioner said on getting to the Southern Delta University in Ozoro, they were surprised to see that the College of Health Sciences almost completed, saying the full block had been completed and an additional block was being built to complement the medical building.

At the Orerokpe Campus, he said a number of projects have been completed, assuring that the campus would be ready for students’ resumption in September this year.

Next was Omadino Technical College in Warri South, where he said Oborevwori assured that the school would be ready for students in September and his administration would continue to deploy education as a tool to fight insecurity, believing that if education was provided for the youth, they would not have the time to engage in crime and criminality.

“We also inspected Hospital Road in Warri South, with accompanying drains, where the governor promised to provide CT-Scanners at the Central Hospital in Warri, Asaba Specialist Hospital and Delta State University Teaching Hospital, Oghara.

He stated: “We also visited the storm water drainage around the Warri Township Stadium and the three flyovers, where work is progressing speedily and the construction firm, Julius Berger Plc, is keeping to schedule, as the governor is paying accordingly.

“On the third day, we headed to Orere Bridge, where the governor urged the contractor to fast-track the completion of the project, before we proceeded to the 47-km Ohoror-Bomadi Road, where we are intervening in 30 kilometres of that stretch.

“We also inspected the Edo Road and others in Ughelli and we could see that the governor ‘dey show workings, nor be chor chor chor.”

He explained that the governor has directed that any contractor who has so many jobs and unable to fast-track the jobs in their hands with quality would not any a new job.

The added that last weekend, Oborevwori was able to broker lasting peace between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities, who have which had been at loggerheads over land dispute, after accepting terms of settlement and promising to continue living in peace, even as the state government had earlier approved the construction of Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh Road.

Aniagwu lampooned what he called impersonation of some ethnic nationalities by the opposition in their faceless and directionless criticisms of the Oborevwori administration, adding that despite these, Oborevwori would not be distracted nor confuse politics for governance, assuring that more projects would be approved in the next state executive council meeting.
