*Denies Having Affair With Ini Edo, Dakore, Others
SENATE President, Godswill Akpabio, has tendered an apology to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, following remarks he made during a plenary session, instructing the Kogi lawmaker not to speak unless he acknowledged her, stating that the senate was not a “nightclub.”
This happened after Akpabio, during plenary session on Thursday, July 18, said those in favour of the Second Reading of a Bill to say ‘Aye,’ while those against should say ‘Nay.’
Interestingly those that said ‘Nay’ were far more louder than those that said “Aye,” forcing the Senate President to think of his next action.
However, Akpoti-Uduaghan, explaining why she and some others were against the reading, said: “Mr President, we don’t want it to be killed. We just want a bit of modification. We don’t want the Bill killed, but there should be slight modification.”
Akpabio, in his response said: “You see, Senator Natasha, in the chamber, you have to be recognised before you speak. We’re not in a nightclub.”
The remark had generated controversy on the social media, as many people saw it as an attack on the female politician and disrespectful towards women, with some concerned Nigerians demanding that Akpabio apologised to Natasha.
But Akpabio, during the plenary on Tuesday, July 22, tendered his apology, saying: “I will not intentionally denigrate any woman and I always pray that God will uplift women.
“Distinguished Senator Natasha, I want to apologise to you. The interest shown on the social media shows that we have enemies. I felt I should tender a public apology to you. I do not mean any harm. People should concentrate on things that will move this country forward.
“Social media handlers should practise with decorum. We won’t out of anger regulate social media.”
Meanwhile, Akpabio has denied the viral social media report alleging that he has numerous celebrity girlfriends.
Recall that a Instagram blog had over the weekend alleged that the senate president was having an illicit affairs with some female celebrities, including Ini Edo; Nancy Isime; Hilda Baci; Dakore, Nwanneka Nkumah, Nnadi Shontel and others.
Speaking on the floor of the senate on Tuesday, Akpabio denied the allegation, insisting he only has one wife and she is enough for him.
He stated: “I have only one wife and she is enough for me.”
