THE President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, is to appear before the Police, for a second interrogation, along with the General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, over terrorism financing, on September 25, as the scheduled meeting on Thursday, September 5, at the Police Headquarters in Abuja, do not hold, having earlier written to investigators that they would not be available on that date.
Recall that the duo were summon “to answer questions over alleged criminal intimidation, conducts likely to cause a breach of public peace and malicious damage to property.”
Counsel for the NLC, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), who accompanied Ajaero to the Police to honour his first invitation on August 29 had told earlier hinted that the Labour leaders would seek a postponement of the interrogation, adding: “We wrote for another date, as Comrade Joe Ajaero has an engagement outside Abuja today.”
The Police invited Ajaero and Ugboaja over allegations of terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy and treasonable felony following a night raid on the NLC national secretariat in Abuja, otherwise known as Labour House.
The Police suspect a link between the Labour leaders and a Briton, Andrew Wynne, who has been accused of financing the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in the country in order to overthrow the government of President Bola Tinubu. He has since been declared wanted along with a Nigerian.
Following Ajaero’s first appearance on August 29, the Police, in another letter, signed by the Commissioner of Police, Operations, Mr. Ibitoye Alajide, on behalf of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Force Intelligence Department, Abuja, asked him to appear again on Thursday, September 5, alongside Ugboaja.
