Aiyedatiwa Picks Akeredolu’s Kinsman, Adelami As Deputy

To Be Screened On Thursday

ONDO State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has nominated a former Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Chief Olayide Owolabi Adelami, as Deputy.

The nomination of Adelami came hours after the governor dissolved the State Executive Council (SEC).

The name of Adelami, who hails from Owo, the hometown of the late governor, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, has been transmitted to the Ondo State House of Assembly for approval.

Aiyedatiwa, the former deputy governor, was sworn in as the substantive governor on December 27, last year, following the death of Akeredolu.

He survived an impeachment plot by some Akeredolu’s allies in the Assembly when the ex-governor was ill.

The state’s politics operates on rotation of power among the three senatorial districts. Aiyedatiwa, from the Ilaje Local Council, is from Ondo South, while Akeredolu was from Owo Local Council in Ondo North.

Adelami was born over 60 years ago and was the deputy clerk to the National Assembly until his retirement in April 2018.

Meanwhile, Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Olamide Oladiji, announced during Wednesday’s plenary after reading a letter from Aiyedatiwa that the governor acted in line with Section 191(3) b&c of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.

“Adelami, who hails from Owo in Owo Local Government Area of the State, is expected to appear before the House tomorrow, January 25 for screening,” he disclosed.
