THE Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has summoned the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, and the General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, to appear, this time, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, on September 5.
The latest summon came barely one day after Ajaero, alone, honoured the Police’s invitation over alleged criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
This time , they top Labour leaders are to answer questions over alleged criminal intimidation, conducts likely to cause a breach of public peace and malicious damage to properties.
Lawyer to the President, Mr. Maxwell Opara, had on Thursday, August 29, stated that the Police had retracted their earlier reasons for summoning his client on August 20.
Opara, while addressing journalists and workers of affiliates unions after honouring the invitation, said the reasons as contained in the invitation letter from the Police were quite different from what they were told.
“Just to correct an impression; what we heard from the Police when we got there was quite different from the content of the invitation letter.
“They said that Ajaero was invited to be questioned in respect of a tenant occupying one of the offices in Labour House.
So, Ajaero told them what he knew about the tenant and that was it.
“This does not mean that we are going to relent, because we do not know what will come up next. We must get ourselves prepared.”
