OAU Condemns Robbers Attacks On Its Students

MANAGEMENT of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has condemned the recent attacks on its students by hoodlums robbed them of their belongings and also inflict injuries on them.
Recall that armed robbers on Monday, October 20, injured some students at a private hostel, identified as Oreoluwa Hostel, in Moremi Estate, within Ile -Ife, who was promptly taken to the university’s health centre by officials of the students’ union for treatment.
The university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, in a statement he issued on Tuesday, October 21, said three of the students who sustained deep machete cuts to the head and both hands, were identified and promptly treated.
he identified them as Ogedengbe Emmanuel Oluwafemi and Emmanuel Akinribiye, both part four student of the Department of Management and Accounting, and Olalekan David Okemiga, a final year student of the Department of Mathematics.
While condemning the attacks, which occurred between 10.35pm and 11.30pm, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, appreciated the prompt response of the officers and men of the Nigerian Police, A Division, Ile -Ife, and Oke-Otubu Division, Modakeke.
He appealled to security operatives, particularly the Nigerian Police and the Department of State Service (DSS) to intensify operational patrol around the areas, so that “our students will not be living in fear while going for and coming from lectures.”
Bamire, while wishing the students quick recovery and thanking God for sparing their lives, urged lovers of education to build more hostels within the university campus to enable it accommodate, protect and monitored the students.
