*Says Delta APC United Under Gov
BY GODWIN IJEDIOGOR
DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Tuesday, October 21, departed Nigeria for Germany on an official working visit to strengthen the state’s partnership with construction giant, Julius Berger Plc.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, who disclosed this at a press briefing in Asaba, stressed that the visit was not for leisure, but part of the administration’s continuous efforts to enhance project delivery and cost efficiency.
Flanked by the Chief Press Secretary ( CPS) to the Governor, Festus Ahon, and Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Policies, Olisa Ifeajika, Aniagwu explained that the visit was strictly a working mission designed to deepen technical collaboration and secure more favourable project terms for Delta State.
The commissioner recalled that the state’s previous engagement with China led to the award of major contracts, including the N59billion Agbor Flyover and N39billion Otovwodo Junction (Ughelli) Flyover on the Warri–Patani Expressway, adding that next year’s budget, estimated at N1.5trillion, would prioritise capital projects, social welfare and infrastructure expansion.
Aniagwu stated that following the approval of the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, ministries were fine-tuning their submissions before presentation to the State Executive Council, as the governor had directed that all upcoming empowerment programmes, scheduled to begin next month, must be transparent and inclusive across all 25 local government areas, to be coordinated by key ministries and agencies to create sustainable livelihoods and boost productivity.
He disclosed that the state would, in the coming weeks, perform several groundbreaking ceremonies for new projects worth billions of naira, including the Otovwodo Junction Flyover, underscoring the government’s determination to sustain momentum in infrastructure development.
He assured that Oborevwori’s administration would not allow political timelines to slow governance, insisting that contractors had been instructed to maintain steady progress on all ongoing projects.
In a related development, Aniagwu enthused that the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has achieved unity and cohesion under Oborevwori’s leadership, insisting his political integration efforts since the transition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to APC on April 28 had fostered harmony and collective purpose across all strata of the party.
He said extensive meetings had been held at the ward, local government and senatorial levels to consolidate internal unity, culminating in the recent stakeholders’ meeting in Asaba, attended by top political figures, members of the national and state Assemblies, top elected and appointed office holders at the ward, local government areas and state levels.
He stated that at that meeting, participants unanimously expressed confidence in the governor’s performance and pledged total support for him and President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Aniagwu dismissed claims of disunity in the party, stressing that turnout and participation at the meeting were exceptional, adding: “All our senators, and nearly all of House of Representatives members, were present and participated fully.
“Those absent had official engagements and even took formal permission. That’s why I say, in Delta APC, we are operating at a level of distinction.”
He said politics required constant management of interests and relationships, describing the governor as a patient and insightful leader who understands the dynamics of people and power, saying: “Rather than focus on the few who couldn’t make it to the meeting, we should celebrate the hundreds who did and those who spoke, contributed and reaffirmed their loyalty to the party and its leadership.”
