Commotion As Ganduje, APC Northeast Leader Endorse Tinubu Without Shettima In Gombe

Published:

THERE was confusion and commotion on Sunday, June 15, at a meeting of the Northeast leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe, the Gombe State capital, when the party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, and National Vice Chairman in the zone, Mustapha Salihu, declined to endorse Vice President Kashim Shettima for a second term with President Bola Tinubu.
Yobe State Governor, Mala Buni, called the meeting amid speculation of a plot against Shettima’s retention on the ticket and the stalwarts had gathered to review its prospects and also endorse their son, Shettima, alongside Tinubu.
According to Daily Trust, Salihu and Ganduje refused to mention Shettima’s name in their speeches, actions irritated some delegates, who attempted to confront them, but for the intervention of their security aides, who shielded and escorted them to their vehicles out of the venue.
The meeting, attended by virtually all ministers, lawmakers and governors of the party from the zone, later saw the Deputy National Chairman, Bukar Dalori, endorsing both Tinubu and Shettima for a secong term, a development that calmed frayed nerves, even as suspicion lingers.
