PRESIDENT Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Thursday, May 22, wrote to the National Assembly, seeking consideration and passage of this year’s N1.481trillion budget of the Rivers State Government, following the nullification of the earlier one presented to and approved by a three-man House of Assembly by the Supreme Court.
Recall that the state is under emergency rule and members of the House of Assembly suspended, along with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Ngozi Odu, and appointed Vice Admiral Ekwe Ibas as Sole Administrator.
As a result, the National Assembly, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), has taken over the legislative functions of the Assembly.
The President, in the letter, said ₦324billion will be expended on infrastructure, ₦166billion on health, ₦75.6billion on education and ₦31.4billion on agriculture.
He explained that agriculture was expected to generate about 6,000 jobs and appealed to the lawmakers to urgently pass the budget for the good of the state.
