LIKE the House of Representatives, the Senate has set up a committee to oversee the implementation of emergency rule in Rivers State.
This followed the suspension of democratically elected institutions in the state and appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (rtd) as the Sole Administrator to administer the state for an initial six months by President Bola Tinubu on March 18.
The committee is tasked with overseeing the functions of the sole administrator.
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who announced the membership of the committee on Tuesday, May 6, stressed the need to oversee the functions of the sole administrator and the Rivers State government under emergency rule.
The committee, chaired by Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, include Rufai Hanga; Adamu Aliero; Osita Izunaso; Osita Ngwu; Kaka Shehu; Iya Aminu Abbas; Tokubo Abiru; Adeniyi Adegbonmire and Mohamed Sani Musa.
Others are Simon Lalong; Asuquo Ekpeyong; Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole; Ireti Kingibe; Onyekachi Nwaeboyi; Idiat Adebule; Ede Dafinone and Mohammed Maidori, with Mr. Charles Bala as the Clerk/Secretary.
Akpabio, in his remarks, charged the committee to commence its oversight duties without delay, adding: “If there is need to review, it will be after further consultation with our colleagues.
“But in the meantime, they have to get to work immediately.”
