THE Benue State Police Command has confirmed the death of 56 persons from the recent attacks on Ukum and Logo Local Councils by suspected herdsmen.
As a result, Governor Hyacinth Alia appealed to the Federal Government to step up and deal with the situation promptly to forestall further killings.
Speaking to journalists on Saturday, April 19 after his visit scenes to ascertain the impact on the commuities affected, Alia, while condemning the attacks on the defenseless people, called for greater action from security agencies to stop the killings.
He also called for calm, urging the people to resist the will to resort to self-help. He used the visit to engage with community leaders and the people, assuring them of a better deal in addressing all forms of insecurity in the state.
