NUJ Names Ned Nwoko Patron
THE Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone F, comprising the entire South-South states, with headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has honoured the Chancellor of the Sports University, Idumuje-Ugboko and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial candidate for Delta North, Prince Ned Nwoko, as its Patron.
This was disclosed during a courtesy visit of the zonal leadership of the union to the businessman and philanthropist at hi, Idumuje-Ugboko country home in Aniocha North Local Council of Delta State on Sunday, November 20.
According to the leader of the delegation and NUJ Vice President (Zone F), Opaka Dokubo: “Nwoko, apart from being a known philanthropist, has remained a shining star connecting people of different races and colours. We have searched for a suitable individual to make our Patron and having come in contact with Nwoko, we are satisfied he truly fits into our choice.
“We are an indispensable segment of society, which must of necessity establish cordial working relationship with the Nwoko, aimed at helping in propagating his good natured ideals and leadership towards human and societal developments.
“We are proud of the person you have been to Nigeria, in terms of your accomplishments on the Paris Club Refund, malaria eradication project, sports development and more.
“Your ambition to represent your people at the Senate is most welcomed and we will give you the needed support to actualise your dreams of becoming the next senator to represent Delta North senatorial district.”
In his response, Nwoko, while accepting the offer to be Patron of the NUJ Zone F, commended the union’s leaders for finding him worthy to occupy such office, promising eventful engagement with the NUJ.
He pledged to support the training of journalists from the zone after next year’s general elections to build their capacity.
