Stashed Naira Notes: More Governors Under Watch, Says EFCC Boss

THE Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, on Thursday, November 17 disclosed that more state governors were being monitored by the Commission on suspicion of money laundering.

Bawa had earlier last week said three state governors were being closely watch as the Central bank of Nigeria is set to roll out redesigned N200, N500 and N1,000 notes by the middle of next month.

The EFCC chairman, speaking to journalists at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, after he met with President Muhammadu Buhari in the State House, however, declined to disclose the number, arguing that he would not want to be misquoted.

He commended the move to redesign the new naira notes, describing the development as a significant process in the country’s fight against financial crimes and other forms of corruption, noting that the huge amount of the country’s currency that has left the CBN vault had hindered trailing financial crimes, saying the redesigning was an opportunity for government to regain control over the flow of cash in the country.

Bawa appealled to politicians to go about their campaigns without using illegitimate funds.
