*Urges Contenders To Shield Swords, Join To Develop Kingdom

PROFESSOR Epiphany Azinge, who was on Saturday, October 5, crowned as the Asagba of Asaba, has vowed to work to meaningfully indigenes and residents of the Delta State capital.

Speaking after his coronation as the 14th Asagba of Asaba at the Asagba Palace, the professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) expressed his commitment to preserve the rich traditions and culture of Asaba, as well as leverage on his traditional status, exposure and contacts to attract infrastructural development to the town, including the clamour for a federal university.

He assured that no one in his kingdom would be marginalised, as everyone would be carried along in the affairs of his domain.

Azinge, who emerged successor to the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Chike Edozien, urged other contenders to shield their swords and work with him for the good, unity and development of Asaba and its people.

Earlier, Azinge took the oath of office, performed by the Onihe of Asaba, Chief Ubaka Attoh, witnessed by a mammoth crowd and was presented with the traditional staff of office.

The colourful ceremony was witnessed attended by sons and daughters of Asaba Kingdom; a former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori; palace chiefs; title holders; indigenes; residents and traditional rulers from across the country.

Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in last year’s general elections, Mr. Peter Obi, made a sudden appearance at the reception ceremony, held at the Ogwa-Ukwu of Ahaba in Oshimili South Local Council of the state.
