Obasanjo Explains Why He Visited IBB In Minna

Published:

FORMER President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has explained that he visited former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) in Minna, Niger State, on Sunday, September 15, to felicitate with him on his birthday.

Obasanjo, former head of state, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, and Gen. Aliyu Gusau (rtd) visited Babangida at his Hill Top residence in Minna and held a closed-door meeting with him.

Obasanjo arrived Minna Airport in a Golf Steam 5 aircraft about 4:30pm and drove straight to Babangida’s residence, where he joined Abubakar and Gusau.

A statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday night and signed by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, explained that Obasanjo could not pay a visit to IBB last month “because of his busy schedules outside the country,” recalling that he had earlier that day paid a similar visit to the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, in Benin, to felicitate with him on his 90th birthday celebration.

“After the celebration in Benin, the former President proceeded to Minna in Niger State to visit Babangida, who celebrated his 83rd birthday on August 17.

“Obasanjo noted the contributions of Babangida and celebrated his good health.

“In his remarks, Obasanjo said he could not do this earlier, as he was outside the country. He prayed for continued good health for the president,” the statement said.
