FROM CHUKS COLLINS, AWKA
THE immediate past managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) and a founding member of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Chief George Moghalu, has tendered his resignation from the party and is set to join the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the Anambra State governorship election next year.
Moghalu, the pioneer national auditor of the APC, submitted his resignation letter dated, August 26, to the chairman of Uruagu Nnewi Ward 1 in Nnewi North Local Council of Anambra State.
The letter read in part: “I bring to you, the good wishes of my dear family and to formally notify you of my decision to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with effect from today, August 26, 2024.
“Please Kindly accept this as a personal decision.
“It is my utmost desire and expectation that all of us will continue to maintain the cordial relationship that we have built together over the years
“I wish you and all the members of the party the very best. Please accept as always the assurance of my best regard.”
Moghalu was a key founding member of APC, who played key roles, including as secretary during the formation stage and contested its governorship primaries on two occasions.
Shortly after submitting his membership resignation letter, he sat for breakfast with about 100 widows from the senatorial district at his Uruagu Nnewi country home and used the opportunity to distribute bags of rice and other items to the widows.
Moghalu used that opportunity to receive council and Ward officers of the Nnewi North Local Council chapter of the LP, led by the Local Government Chairman, Mr. Emeka Okeke, who were on a courtesy visit to him.
While commending him for expressing positive interest to join a progressive party, the LP, they said was available.
Moghalu, in his response, assured his guests that his declaration to join another party would be properly announced soon, even as he stated that his doors remained open to all.
