THE Sokoto State Police Command has imposed a curfew on Sabon Birni town in Sabon Birni Local Council as youths protest the murder of the District Head of Gatawa, Isa Muhammad Bawa.
According to the Command’s spokesman, Ahmed Rufa’i (ASP), the 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. curfew would remain in effect until further notice to restore law and order in the area.
Hundreds of youths had taken to the streets on Thursday, August 22, setting bonfires on major roads and attacking the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat and a courtroom, as well as breaking into the local government store and destroying fertilisers.
The protesters, who marched towards the residence of the state’s deputy governor, Alhaji Idris Muhammad Gobir, were demanding a thorough investigation into the killing and prosecution of those responsible.
In a video clip, son of the slain district head, Kabiru Isa, who was recently released by his abductors, accused a member of the State House of Assembly of being behind the abduction.
Bawa was abducted, tortured and brutally killed by the terrorists on Wednesday, August 21. He had earlier before his murder pleaded for his life and urging government to intervene in a video clip.
