Immigration Investigates Woman For Tearing Husband’s Passport At Lagos Airport

Published:

THE Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has launched an investigation into the case of a woman destroying her husband’s Nigerian passport at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos in a viral video.

The viral footage captured the woman, identified simply as Mrs. Igiebor, who looked agitated and uncooperative when asked about her actions, tearing up the passport shortly after their arrival at the airport, ostensibly from Italy.

The NIS cited a potential violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015, which prohibits the willful destruction of Nigerian travel documents.

The offence attracts jail term of up to 10 years, with the law saying: “A person who unlawfully alters, tampers with or mutilates any passport or any pages thereof, commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term of ten (10) years or a fine of Two Million Naira or both.”

The action of the woman has attracted reaction on social media, especially after her husband release a video footage of the incident.
