We’re Rebuilding Damaged Okuama Health Centre, Schools, Says Oborevwori

Published:

DELTA State Governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, said the state government has started the rebuilding of the damaged health centre and schools at Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Council by invading troops of the Nigerian Army, following the alleged killing of 17 officers and soldiers by youths in the community earlier in the year.

Speaking when the leadership of Urhobo Council of Traditional Rulers visited him at the Government House in Asaba on Thursday, August 8, the governor, while thanking them for the visit and for donating food and relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of Okuama, disclosed that the state government had awarded contracts for the construction of a health centre and six classroom blocks for primary and secondary schools in the community.

Oborevwori added that the state government was doing its best to make sure peace returns to Okuama and that the IDPs return to their ancestral community soon.

He reminded the monarchs of the need to curb pockets of insecurity in the area, noting: “We are doing our best; I want to assure the people of  Delta that we are working hand-in-hand with security agencies to ensure that the state is peaceful.”

Earlier, leader of the delegation and Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Emmanuel Sideso Abe 1, and President General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Worldwide, Chief Ese Gam, thanked the governor for receiving them, saying the visit was to appreciate and intimate him on issues affecting the Urhobo people and Delta in general.

Sideso, represented by the Vice Chairman of the Council and Ovie of Arhavwarien Kingdom, HRM Solomon Okukeren III, lauded the governor for his infrastructural projects and for the resolution of the age-long crisis between Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities, as well as the Okuama and Okoloba crisis.
