Aftermath Of Vandalisation: MTN Shuts Offices Nationwide NIN-SIM Linkage

Published:

ONE of the major telecommunications companies in Nigeria, MTN, has shut all its stores and service centres across the country following the vandalisation of some of its facilities on Monday, July 29 over the blockage of SIMs/lines not linked to the National Identification Number (NIN).

Some subscribers’ lines were barred on Sunday, July 28, due to mismatch in their NINs and SIM registrations, leading to a large number of them storming telecoms companies’ office nationwide in a bod the complete the process and reactivate their blocked lines on Monday.

In a viral video on social media, a crowd was seen pulling down a barricade fence just outside the MTN office in FESTAC Town, Lagos State.

Public outrage over the barring of lines and the frustrations in reactivating such lines necessitated the directive from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to all mobile service operators to reactivate all lines already disconnected, as a temporary relief.
