Fubara: Gratitude Restrains Me From Taking Certain Actions

*Disappointed By Police Inaction On Dynamite Explosion in Port Harcourt

RIVERS State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has disclosed that his level of appreciation for his political benefactor, ostensibly referring to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, is the reason he has restrained himself from taking certain actions.

Speaking in response to critics who have tagged him as ungrateful, following his disagreement with Wike, who had led to the lingering political crisis in the state, Fubara, while playing hosts to Stakeholders of Ikwerre ethnic nationality, including the leadership of Ogbakor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation, Supreme Council of Ikwerre Traditional Rulers and others, at Government House, Port Harcourt, on Monday, July 8, said promised to not throw caution to the wind, but continue to show respect to people for what they are, despite the political events in the state.

The Ikwerre ethnic nationality, to which Wike belongs, constitutes Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor, Emoji and Ikwerre local councils.

At the swearing in of Emmanuel Frank-Fubara, who was earlier screened and confirmed as a commissioner by the Victor Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly on Monday, held at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House, Fubara defended his recognition of the Oko-Jumbo-led faction, insisting that it is the lawfully recognised legislative arm.

He expressed disappointment with the Police for not doing enough to unravel the facts about the bomb explosion in Port Harcourt some weeks ago, saying the relevant authorities were silent because the suspects in the attack were not his supporters.

He stated: “I’ve not been hearing anything and I’m wondering, after how many weeks now, the Nigerian Police are still not able to come out and make a statement about the attempt by someone, who I don’t know what his name is, tried to detonate dynamite in front of Hotel Presidential.

“I’m still wondering why it doesn’t happen. But if it’s maybe any other thing that has to do with us, they will say they should even charge the person for terrorism.”
