ACCORDING to Tonye Barcanista, on July 9, 2013, there was an event unfolded in the Rivers House of Assembly.
Five lawmakers, allegedly loyal to then Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, and President Goodluck Jonathan, impeached speaker, Otelemaba Amachree.
Martins Amaehwule (Obio/Akpor 1) moved the impeachment motion, while Evans Bipi (Ogu/Bolo) was elected as the factional speaker.
In a violent confrontation, Chidi Lloyd, then majority leader, attacked Michael Chinda with the Mace, leaving him severely injured.
Fast forward to 2024. The political landscape has shifted, Amaewhule, Bipi and Chinda, once allies, are now in different camps. Lloyd, who attacked Chinda, is now in the same pro-Wike camp as Chinda and Amaewhule. Bipi, the former factional speaker, is no longer in the Wike camp, he has pitched tent with the Fubara camp and was appointed Caretaker Committee Chairman of Ogu/Bolo LGA.
In politics, allegiances are fleeting and interests shift like sand. There are no eternal friends or enemies, only perpetual interests.
Jahmal of Port Harcourt wrote: “History will never be fair to Amaewhule. In 2014, Wike used five members to chase out 27 members. Today, Sim Fubara is using three to chase out 27. Karma, they say, is what?”
