Police, Military Foil Bank Robbery In FCT

Published:

THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, in a combined operation with the Nigerian military, has foiled a bank robbery attempt in Abaji Area Council of the territory.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh (SP), said this in a statement on Friday, June 14, in Abuja, that the Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Mr. Bennett Igweh, led the operation against the robbery attempt on Thursday, June 13.

Adeh said security forces had engaged the 15-man robbery gang in an intense gun duel after the robbers attacked the bank with dynamite in an attempt to rob, forcing the robbers to retreat, with various degrees of bullet wounds.

She said the security forces apprehended three of the gang members, who sustained various degrees of bullet injuries, while a yet-to-be-identified suspect was set ablaze by an irate mob at the scene after being neutralised by the security forces, adding: “A Police operative and the gang leader, with bullet injuries, were rushed to the hospital, but later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, while others are still receiving treatment.”

She said search operation was ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the gang with bullet injuries, adding that Igweh commended the effectiveness of the combined operation, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to make FCT unsafe for criminals.
