*Obi: We Achieve Nothing By Gloating About An Accident That Could Well Happen To Any Of Us
PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu, speaking humorously about his stumble while climbing onto a vehicle during the celebration of Democracy Day, on Wednesday, June 12, at the Eagle Square, Abuja, called the fall a dobale for democracy.
The President, speaking at a state banquet, joked about his fall in the morning, calling it a ‘swagger,’ humorously attributing it to his Yoruba heritage.
He jokingly referred to his stumble as a display of swagger for the day, stressing his cultural roots by referring to the traditional Yoruba act of dobale, literarily meaning to bow.
Meanwhile, presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in last year’s general election, Mr. Peter Obi, in a reaction posted on his X handle, said: “I was saddened to learn of President Tinubu’s unfortunate fall today. I wish him well.
“We achieve nothing by gloating about an accident that could well happen to any of us.
“We are all human beings and while we profoundly disagree on how to move Nigeria forward, we must remember our common human frailty. Let us stay focused on the issues that will lead to a new Nigeria.
“May this moment serve as a poignant reminder of our shared humanity and the need for compassion, empathy and unity in our pursuit of a brighter future for our great nation.”
