*Atiku: ‘I Hope All Is Well With Him’
THE Presidency has, in reaction to the slipping of President Bola Tinubu while boarding a parade vehicle on Wednesday, June 12, said the incident does not diminish the significance of the Democracy Day.
Shortly after he arrived at the Eagles Square, Abuja venue of the celebration, the President slipped and tripped as he climbed into the vehicle and was quickly assisted up by his security details to stabilise, the video of which trended on the social media all through the day and has attracted all manner of comments.
While confirming the incident, his Special Assistant on Social Media, Mr. Segun Dada, said despite the slip, the President quickly regained his balance and continued with the proceedings.
According to him: “Mr President missed his step while climbing into the truck at the June 12 Democracy Day celebration and tripped. It was a mild misstep. He immediately went on with the ceremonial rounds. No issues.”
In addition, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his X handle, later on Wednesday, said Tinubu was not a superman and that other world leaders had also slipped in the past.
He stressed: “President Tinubu is not a Superman; he is human like all of us. President Joe Biden (of the United States) has had several slips in the last three years. Even the younger Barack Obama slipped while President.
“Political leaders are human. Slipping should not detract from the import of Democracy Day celebration.”
Meanwhile, a former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has sympathised with Tinubu over the incident, which he described as “unfortunate”.
Writing on his X handle, Abubakar said: “I sincerely sympathise with President Bola Tinubu over this unfortunate incident as he was set to review the parade on Democracy Day.
“I do hope that all is well with him.”
