Police Arrest Zamfara Lawmaker, Others In Connection With Banditry

Published:

THE Zamfara State Police Command has arrested some high-profile persons in the state, including a lawmaker and a former local government chairman for banditry.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammad Dalijan, who disclosed this while hosting the officer in charge of the Counterterrorism Unit of the United Nations Office On Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Mr. Thomas Parker, at the Command headquarters in Gusau, the state capital, did not, however, reveal the identities of the suspects.

Dalijan appealed to the UN to replicate what it did in Borno State in Zamfara, even as he sought the agency’s assistance in training of his men on investigation and establishment of forensic laboratories to accelerate the investigation and prosecution of suspected criminals.

In his response, Parker said they were in Zamfara following the appeal by Governor Dauda Lawal to the UN to assist the state in tackling insecurity surrounding it.

Parker, who visited the Command to gather more information about the existential threats in the state, pledged the UN’s readiness to conduct an assessment of the security situation, first to understand the causes and challenges, and how to help deal with the threats.
