THE Delta State Government has approved the upward review of contract sum of some ongoing projects across the state, due to rising cost of construction materials.
But the government terminated the contract for the rehabilitation of the Warri Township Stadium for apparent lack of capacity to deliver the project by the contractor.
Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, while speaking on some of the decisions reached at the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting, presided over by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, disclosed that Exco approved the payment of retirement/death benefits to verified staff of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka.
The Council also approved amendment to the road traffic regulations; review of interest rate on naira credit facilities for contractor guarantee facilities and direct facilities and the appointment of HRH, Kingsley Emuakpor Orherhe, as the Ovie of Agbakoba-Warri Kingdom in Warri South Local Council were also approved.
The Exco approved the upward review of the contract due to fluctuations in unit rate and balanced additional works for construction of Kwale/Beneku Road and approach road in Ndokwa West and Ndokwa East Local Councils.
“The SEC granted approval for the reconstruction of Ororor, Chechster and Benjamin Oseregbaje roads in Sapele, Sapele Local Council; amendment to the road traffic regulations; the review of interest rate on naira credits facilities for contractor guarantee facilities and direct facilities; upward review of the contract due to increase in the prices of construction materials for the construction of Obi-Ibabu Road, Onicha Ukwuani in Ndokwa West Local Council.”
Osuoza said while saying approval was also given for the construction and rehabilitation of roads in Sapele town in Sapele Local Council, approval was given for the upward review of contract sum due to fluctuations in unit rate and additional works for the construction of a six-lane access road to Asaba waterfront project.
“”We equally approved the upward review of contract due to fluctuations in unit rate and additional works for the construction of a bridge across Orere River, with access roads and spur in Orere, Ughelli South Local Council.
“Exco approved the upward review of contract sum due to increase in prices of construction materials and labour for the construction/rehabilitation of Emevor-Orogun Road, Phase l in Isoko North Local Council, as well as the review of contract sum due to fluctuations in unit rate or balanced and additional works for the construction of Okpanam/Ibusa Road from Benin /Asaba Expressway, by Okpanam Junction, to Ibusa/Asaba Road in Oshimili North Local Council.”
