FOLLOWING the uproar over membership and spread of the newly-reconstituted governing councils of federal tertiary institutions, President Bola Tinubu has directed a “total and comprehensive” review of the list before their inauguration and retreat being planned for the nominees.
According to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, in a statement on Thursday, May 23, Tinubu is committed to ensuring strict compliance with the principle of federal character in the appointments, as entrenched in the constitution.
Onanuga said the review would also take into consideration, national spread and ensure every part of the country is adequately represented.
Recall that the Federal Ministry of Education recently released names of nominees for chairmen, pro-chancellors and members of the boards and councils of federal-owned universities, polytechnics and colleges of education and announced May 31 for the inauguration and retreat for the nominees.
But controversy has trailed the list due to some observed unfavourable and skewed representation and non-conformity with the spirit of federal character.
