Tinubu Inaugurates Gas Infrastructure Projects In Delta, Imo States

Published:

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, May 15, inaugurated three major gas projects, reassuring investors in the energy sector of his administration’s resolve to enhance the business environment and ensure investment convenience.

The projects are the expanded AHL Gas Processing Plant located in Ogbe-Ani community, Delta State, ANOH Gas Processing Plant, as well as the 23.3km ANOH to Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Custody Transfer Metering Station Gas Pipeline located in Ohaji/Egbema Local Council of Imo State.

The President said this at the State House during the virtual commissioning ceremonies held simultaneously: “It is pleasing that when these projects become fully operational, approximately 500MMscf of gas in aggregate will be supplied to the domestic market from these two gas processing plants, which represents over 25 per cent incremental growth in gas supply.

“In practical terms, this is more gas to the power sector, gas-based industries and other critical segments of the economy.

“I, therefore, commend the strategic vision of the NNPC Limited and its partners, Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO) and Seplat Energy Plc, for this laudable and value-adding projects.”

He urged all gas-sector participants and would-be investors to ramp up efforts to accelerate investment and developments of projects in the gas sector on a win-win basis, in line with the theme of the inauguration, ‘From Gas to Prosperity; Renewed Hope.’

Tinubu assured that his administration was stepping up its coordination of other landmark projects and initiatives that would ensure the earliest realisation of gas-fueled prosperity in the country, noting that the projects were fully in line with the Decade of Gas Initiative and his government’s vision to grow value from the country’s abundant gas assets, while concurrently eliminating gas flaring and accelerating industrialisation.

“This event is highly significant to our country, as it demonstrates the administration’s concerted efforts to accelerate the development of critical gas infrastructure geared at enhancing the supply of energy to boost industrial growth and create employment opportunities.”

He said his government remained determined in its bid to leverage the country’s vast gas capacity to drive economic growth, adding: “Aside from the presidential CNG initiative, which is aimed at moving the good people of Nigeria away from petrol and diesel as vehicular combustion fuel, significant progress has also been recorded in incentivising gas development through presidential directives.”

He commended the efforts of NNPCL, SEEPCO and Seplat Energy on the business partnership initiative, congratulating them on the successful implementation of the three projects.

Tinubu reiterated his government’s resolve to continue to provide support in deepening domestic gas utilisation, increase national power generation capacity, revitalise industries and create multiple job opportunities for economic growth.

He added: “Today, I have the singular honour to inaugurate the expansion of the AHL Gas Processing Plant, the ANOH Gas Processing Plant, and the 23.3Km ANOH to Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Custody Transfer Metering Station Gas Pipeline Projects, in line with my administration’s resolve to provide energy for Nigerians and to use our vast natural gas resources to transform Nigeria.”

In his address, Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mr. Mele Kyari, said the three projects were in line with the Nigerian Decade of Gas agenda and consistent with the administration’s effort to boost gas supply to the domestic market.

Kyari said the NNPCL was executing a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) project aimed at providing a cleaner fuel to power Nigerians vehicles as a cheaper alternative to the Premium Motor spirit (PMS).

He stated that NNPCL was deploying CNG delivery installations across its retail stations across the country, thereby supporting the recently announced presidential directive on the purchase of CNG-powered vehicles by institutions of government, and in furtherance of the overall objective CNG presents as an alternative fuel for automobiles.

Managing Director AHL GPP2, Mr. Mohit Baron, said SEEPCO was already working towards delivering Nigeria’s Gas Processing Plant 3 project, with the aim of commissioning in 2026.

Chairman SEPLAT Oil, Senator Udo Ndoma Egba, stated that the ANOH Gas Plant Company has the capacity of producing electricity that would transform the lives of over five million Nigerians.

The AHL Gas Processing Plant is expected to act as a catalyst in rapid industrial development of Nigeria and support higher GDP of the country.
