Fubara Plotting Interim Order To Declare Rivers Assembly Illegal, APC Alleges

Published:

*There Is Nothing Like That

THE Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara was plotting to procure an interim order to declare the state House of Assembly, as currently constituted, illegal, following the earlier defection of 24 members, who later recanted, at the peak of the political crisis in the state.

Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, Tony Okocha, who disclosed this during a media briefing in Port Harcourt, on Thursday, April 4, said Fubara’s outburst on Wednesday, April 3, while addressing members of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Government House, Port Harcourt, was disrespect for President Bola Tinubu.

In his reaction to Okocha’s allegation, the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, said there was no truth in the claims, adding: “There is nothing like that. They are afraid because they know their fall is near.

“Rivers people spoke yesterday through the NULGE, and that organic love expressed threw the camp of the factional acting APC chairman into this feverish situation.”

Recall that Fubara, on Wednesday, April 3, at Government House Gate, while addressing members of the state local government workers, under the aegis Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), who were on a solidarity and thank-you visit, noted that the resolution he is implementing was not constitutional, but a political solution to the crisis.

He said: “But let me say it here, if that action that I have accepted to follow will be taken for my weakness, I will surprise them.”

The governor said implementing the presidential resolution on the political crisis in the state was a mark of respect for President Bola Tinubu and should not be taken as a weakness, adding he could surprise those thinking he was weak.

Fubara, while referring to his detractors in the political crisis in the state, had said: “If you dare me, I will surprise you.”

The governor also urged members of the union in the state to prepare and brace up, saying: “The next phase is fire-for-fire,” assuring NULGE members of his support and urging them not to be intimidated.
