OPERATIVES of the Katsina State Police Command have foiled an attempt by suspected terrorists to abduct a couple in Kankara Local Council.
A statement by the Command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu, said the incident occurred Monday night, March 18, about 11.45pm in Hayin Dam community when the terrorists, armed with dangerous weapons, invaded the residence of one Kabir Magaji, 35, and his wife, Sa’adatu, 20, with the view of kidnapping them.
It added that Police operatives in the area got wind of the attempt and subsequently responded to the scene, where there was a fierce gun duel.
According to the statement: “On March 18, 2024, about 2345 hrs (11.45pm), a report was received at the Kankara Divisional headquarters that some suspected bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked Hayan Dam village, Kankara Local Council and invaded the residence of one Kabir Magaji, age 35, of the same address, in a bid to kidnap him alongside his wife, one Sa’adatu Magaji, age 20.
“Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Kankara, promptly mobilised a team of operatives and responded to the scene, where they engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun duel.
“The team successfully thwarted the kidnapping attempt and rescued the couple unhurt. Efforts are been intensified to arrest fleeing suspects.
“Furthermore, members of the public are advised to promptly report anybody seen with bullet wound, as some of the suspects escaped the scene with gunshot injuries.
“The commissioner of Police, while commending the officers for their outstanding displays of bravery, dedication and professionalism, urged the people of the state to continue to provide the Command and other security agencies with timely information on suspected criminal activity to enable them take swift and decisive action against any recalcitrant criminal in the state.
“He further reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the protection of the lives and property of the people of the state.”
