You’re Not Only Voice Of Nigeria, Tinubu Tells NLC

Published:

*‘Wait Till 2027 If You Want To Contest

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu, displeased about the activities of the Labour unions in the country, especially the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), insisting they are not the only voice of Nigeria.

The President also told the Labour movement in the country to wait till the end of his first tenure in 2027 if they want to participate in the electoral process, and, therefore, give peace a chance in obvious reference to their activities since he assumed office on May 29, last year.

Tinubu, who spoke during the inauguration of the 27-kilometre Lagos Red Line train project, recalled that NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) had embarked on four industrial actions within the first nine months of his administration, urging them to allow his administration to concentrate on its policies.

The President, who also vowed to be relentless in the fight against corruption, urged Nigerians to persevere, saying his administration would remain consistent and committed to its policies in a bid to revive the economy.

He stated: “Let me throw a jab here. The labour union, no matter how much you claim to have freedom and rights, four strikes within the nine months of our administration is unacceptable.

“If you want to participate in the electoral process, wait till 2027. If not, I need peace; you are not the only voice of Nigeria.”

Recall that the NLC President, Mr. Joe Ajaero, on Wednesday, February 28, at a news conference in Abuja shortly after the union suspended its planned two-day nationwide protest against rising hardship, high cost of living, inflation and insecurity in the country as a result of the policies of the Tinubu administration, cited intimidation and threats from the government.
