THE National Working Committee (NWC) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared last Saturday’s governorship primary election in Edo State inconclusive, following the controversy trailing the conduct of the exercise, which has seen three aspirants claiming to be the authentic candidates for the governorship election on September 21, this year.
Recall that while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma, who was Chairman of the primary’s electoral committee announced Dennis Idahosa as winner, returning officer, Stanley Ugboaja, declared Monday Okpebholo as winner, even as Ojo Babatunde, who claimed to be a spokesperson for returning officers for all the local governments councils, declared Anamero Dekeri as winner of the election.
Following the confusion emanating from the exercise, the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) met on Tuesday, February 20 at its national secretariat in Abuja.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka, explained that the election was inconclusive and the process would continue on Thursday, February 22.
He stated: “I am here to give you the outcome of the emergency meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of our party held today regarding the Edo State governorship primary election.
“At its emergency meeting held today, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, to consider the report on the Edo governorship primary election, the NWC of our party deliberated and resolved that the governorship primary election has not been completed and has now fixed Thursday, February 22, for the completion of the APC Edo State primary election process.”
