Kidnapping: First Lady Laments Nabeeha’s Killing, Tasks Security Agencies

Published:

THE First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, touched by the killing of a kidnapped victim, Nabeeha, by her abductors, has extended her condolences to the family of the deceased.

Nabeeha was kidnapped along with her father and sisters at their home in Bwari, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja on January 2.

The six girls, including a cousin, were abducted alongside their father, Alhaji Mansoor Al-Kadriyar, who was later released to go and raise the N60million ransom placed on them, at N10 million each.

A few days after the abduction, Nabeeha’s captors made a demand of a huge ransom and later killed her as a warning when the money was not immediately paid.

The 400-Level student in the Department of Biological Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, was the second to be killed by the criminals after her uncle, who was also gunned down in an exchange of fire between the gunmen and Police when the late uncle had gone to mobilise to checkmate the abduction following a call from Mansoor, his brother and father of the abductees, before they were finally taken away.

Nabeeha has been buried according to Islamic rites at the Bwari Muslim Cemetery.

“It is with a heavy heart that I acknowledge the devastating loss of Nabeeha and extend my deepest condolences to her grieving family.

“In difficult moments like this, I urge the nation to join in fervent prayers for the safe return of these girls. Let us hold the families close to our hearts in prayers,” Mrs. Tinubu wrote on her X account on Monday night.

“I implore our security agencies to intensify their efforts in addressing the pressing matter of kidnappings and insecurity in our nation. The safety and swift return of the Al-Kadriyar sisters and others in captivity should be our paramount concern.

“To the parents, especially mothers, I appeal for intensified prayers for our children and for peace to prevail in our beloved country. May the Almighty God comfort the Al-Kadriyar family for their loss and may God bring the other children back home safely. God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Ironically, the immediate past minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, who has sourced and mobilised N50million for the rescue of the remaining girls, had expressed frustration at the inability of the linkage of NIN to SIM cards to forestall the menace, as promised.

“I’m frustrated security agencies aren’t using NIN-SIM linkage to track terrorists,” he fumed.

Meanwhile, kidnappers who abducted 10 persons from an estate in Sagwari Layout, Dutse, also in Abuja on January 7 have reportedly killed three of their victims as a warning to their relatives negotiating ransom.

Thereafter, the criminals increased their ransom demand from the initial N60million per person to N100million, making it a total sum is now N700million for the release of the seven victims.

In recent times, parts of the country’s capital have been under siege, with many residents living in fear of being attacked or kidnapped.
