EFCC Grills Zenith, Providus, Jaiz Executives Over Ministry’s Scandals

Published:

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has questioned the Chief Executive Officers of Zenith, Providus and Jaiz banks over the financial misappropriation and fraud in the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

Recall that the suspended minister in charge, Dr. Betta Edu, her predecessor, Sadiya Umar Farooq and suspended National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency, which is under the ministry, Hajia Halima Shehu, are being investigated over the matter.

The three banks executives were at the offices of the EFCC on Tuesday, January 9, but were  allowed to go after preliminary questioning by detectives. But it was not clear if they were asked to return on another date.

Meanwhile, Edu has insisted that her hands are clean, vowing her commitment to fight corruption. In a Facebook post addressed specifically to Npower beneficiaries, she wrote: “Dear Npower beneficiaries, I want to assure you all to remain calm and steadfast amidst the recent accusations and suspension I am facing.

“My heart and hands are clean, and I am committed to fighting corruption.

“It’s essential to be aware that some individuals with impure intentions may use government machinery against you. Stay strong, and together, we will navigate through these challenges.”
