Tinubu Nominates Wike, El-Rufai, Umahi, Badaru, 24 Others As Ministers

Published:

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has finally nominated former state governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), David Umahi (Ebonyi) and Muhammed Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa) as ministers.

The nominations were contained in a letter addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read on the floor of the Senate on Thursday, July 27, which was delivered by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, following a motion moved by Senate Leader and seconded by the Majority Leader.

The other ministerial nominees include Dele Alake; Stella Okotete; Olawale Edun; Abubakar Kyari; Ali Pate; Abubakar Momoh; Yusuf Maitama Tukur; Ahmad Dangiwa; Hannatu Musawa; Uche Nnaji; Betta Edu; Doris Uzoka; Ekerikpe Ekpo and Nkiru Onyejiocha.

Also on the list are Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; Uju Kennedy Ohaneye; Bello Muhammad Goronyo; Lateef Fagbemi; Mohammad Idris; Waheed Adebayo Adelabu; Imman Suleman Ibrahim; Joseph Utsev; John Enoh and Sani Abubakar Danladi.

From the list, some states already have two nominees, while some are yet to be represented, as required by the constitution.

But Gbajabiamila hinted that the administration may create new ministries from the existing ones, ostensibly to fulfill that constitutional requirement, saying: “Mr. President intends to separate portfolios or restructure the ministries in such a way you might be hearing of new ministries that were not standalone ministries before. So, the process continues.”
