DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated Churchill Oyowe on his re-election as Chairman of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Oyowe secured 235 votes to defeat his sole challenger, Kenneth Obieh, who garnered 218 votes in the keenly contested election.
Oborevwori, in a statement in Asaba, on Friday, October 16, by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, noted that the close margin between the candidates in the free, fair and credible election was a reflection of the competitive nature of the contest.
The governor, while congratulating Oyowe on his victory, expressed confidence in his capacity to continue to provide purposeful leadership for the union and promote professionalism in journalism.
Others who emerged at the election were Patrick Ochei (Vice Chairman); Felix Ekwu (State Secretary); and Josephine Omodior (Assistant State Secretary), while Caroline Ubini (Treasurer), Toju Oteri (Financial Secretary) and Michael Ilaya (Auditor) were unopposed.
Oborevwori, on behalf of his family, the Government and people of Delta State, congratulated Oyowe and all members of the new State Working Committee (SWC) of the Delta State Council.
He counselled: “Lead everybody, not just those who voted for you. The election is over, now is time for unity. Bring everybody together.
“I urge you to extend a hand of fellowship to your opponent. Delta NUJ must remain united under your leadership.”
