FORMER governor of Bayelsa State, Timipre Sylva, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party has abandoned its founding ideals.
Sylva, a former minister of State for Petroleum Resources, who described himself as a founding member, in a resignation letter dated August 31, and addressed to the APC Ward 4 chairman in Brass Local Council, said the decision was made after wide consultations with his family, associates, colleagues and sympathisers. The former minister in the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, stated: “Having consulted widely with my family, associates, colleagues and sympathisers, I wish to formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect.”
He criticised the APC leadership, alleging its approach to politics had eroded basic standards of decency and morality.
Sylva was declared wanted in connection with an alleged plot to topple the government of President Bola Tinubu, and it was not clear from which location he wrote the letter, having being abroad since the alleged coup plot was uncovered.
