THE Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has directed personnel across the country to deal decisively with persons bearing firearms illegally.
Disu also charged them to apply Force Order 327 to end the loss of service personnel when they encounter criminals to ensure peace is restored in Benue State.
Disu gave the directive at the IGP town hall meeting with Governor Hyacinth Alia in Makurdi, the Benue state capital, as part of his operational visits, following the spate of killings across the state.
After listening to participants, who raised suspected motives of attacks in the state, questioning why the Police have fail to arrest security threats even where intelligence are made available, the IGP, directed Police personnel to engage criminals bearing arms without any specific order, as Force Order 327 insulates them and innocent persons from attacks.
Disu charged youths in the state to work with the Police on intelligence gathering against all forms of criminality, assuring of the Police readiness to deal with criminals, irrespective of their demography.
To compliment the directive, Alia called for the implementation of State Police to assist the convention Police in dealing with insecurity.
On his part, the Tor Tiv pledged full support of any strategy that would bring an end to killings in the state.
