Tinubu, Oborevwori Congratulate Oyebanji On Re-election, Urges Inclusive Governance

Published:

PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu has congratulated Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji, on his re-election governorship election on Saturday, June 20, saying his victory was an endorsement of his administration’s performance and a vote for continuity.

In the same vein, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, described Oyebanji victory as a well-deserved reward for purposeful leadership and people-oriented governance.

Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after securing 319,224 votes.

Tinubu, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, commended the people of Ekiti State for conducting themselves peacefully and orderly, and security agencies for maintaining law and order during the election.

The President also lauded INEC, charging it to build on the Ekiti election success by ensuring future elections remain peaceful, free, fair and credible.

He stated that with his overwhelming victory, Oyebanji has become the first governor of the state to secure re-election back-to-back, a feat he described as a landmark achievement.

He said the governor earned a renewed mandate through tangible progress recorded during his first term, particularly in infrastructure development, agriculture, youth employment, education, healthcare and rural development under the BAO agenda, noting: “The renewed mandate is a clear vote of confidence in continuity, stability and people-centred governance.”

The President underscored the need for inclusive leadership to consolidate development gains across the state, charging the governor to be magnanimous in victory and embrace all stakeholders ahead of his second tenure.

Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to partnering with the state government to deliver more dividends of democracy and deepen the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda for the benefit of the state’s residents.

Oborevwori, in a congratulatory message by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, said Oyebanji’s victory reflected the people’s confidence and trust in his administration, noting it was particularly significant because it marked the first time a sitting governor in Ekiti successfully won a consecutive second term since the return of democratic rule in 1999.

Oborevwori said the outcome demonstrated the growing acceptance of Oyebanji’s leadership style, which has been widely acknowledged for promoting inclusiveness, development and political stability in the state.

He expressed confidence that Oyebanji’s second term would consolidate ongoing development programmes and further advance the socio-economic growth of the state.
