Police Arrest Three Kidnap Suspects Flaunting AK-47 Rifles On Social Media

Published:

THE Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers seen in a viral social media video displaying AK-47 rifles, ammunition and walkie-talkies while dressed in military camouflage.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said he ordered an immediate forensic investigation and manhunt after the footage surfaced online, and digital forensic analysis and intelligence gathering led operatives to their hideout.
The suspects were apprehended during a coordinated early-morning raid carried out on May 25, about 3:22 a.m., in Runji Village, Zuba, involving the Command’s VCRU Sector 5 and officers from the Zuba Division.
The suspects were identified as Umar Babangida (25), Adamu Yeti (22) and Yahaya Idris (24), all residents of Rijana in Kaduna State.
Preliminary findings showed that the suspects allegedly obtained the AK-47 rifles from their gang leader, known as ‘Esco,’ from Rijana, who is currently on the run.
Additional videos and photographs from the suspects’ mobile phones were recovered, showing them posing with military camouflage, high-calibre weapons and communication gadgets.
Sanusi said the suspects would remain in Police custody for further interrogation, while efforts were ongoing to track down Esco and other fleeing members of the gang and recover the firearms used by the syndicate.
