AS efforts to track down the perpetrators and rescue a military spokesman between 2017 and 2019, Maj-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, and his wife, who were kidnaped from his car on Saturday, May 30, while travelling in Katsina State, intensify, there were indications that they may have unknowingly been taken hostage by the group of bandits led by Kachalla Muhammadu, in the Matazu axis.
It was reported that the retired senior soldier and his wife were travelling to Katsina for a wedding when the gunmen attacked their vehicle, but his driver managed to escaped, despite being hit by gunfire.
Although no group has claimed responsibility, and even as the military await the kidnappers to contact the family, Katsina Times reported sources as claiming that the kidnappers initially did not know the identity of their captive and were targeting a senior official or wealthy individual for ransom.
Sources claimed the kidnappers initially did not know the true identity of their captive and were targeting a senior official or wealthy individual for ransom.
They were reportedly transferred to the custody of Muhammadu, a former participant in a government-backed peace deal, said to have resumed armed activities following disputes linked to the arrest of his associates and seizure of cattle during a military operation.
