Gunmen Attack, Kill Two Policemen In Anambra

Published:

GUNMEN, on Sunday night, May 31, attacked policemen attached to the Anambra State Police Command, killing at least two officers instantly in a deadly ambush along the Amansea-Ndiora-Ndiukwuenu-Awa-Ufuma Road in Orumba South Local Council, causing panic among residents of the area and commuters, who fled for safety while the shooting lasted.
The victims’ bodies were abandoned on the main road.
A tricycle operator plying the road said he was riding along the road when he suddenly heard gunshots ahead, prompting him to abandon his tricycle and run into the bush for safety.
He explained in a viral voice note: “After sometime, I came out of the bush and retrieved my keke and continued my journey, then I got to the spot where the thing happened.
“Two policemen were lying on the road here, and their van parked by the road side. I decided to make this voice note to post on the platform, because I think one of the policemen is still alive, so that anyone who knows police authorities will tell them to go and save their members.
The Command confirmed the incident on Monday, June 1, saying efforts had begun to track down those responsible.
State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, explained: “A team of Police officers was returning from an assignment when they were ambushed by armed men who opened fire on them.
“In the process, we lost two officers.”
