THE Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to providing inclusive and quality education for every Nigerian child.
Alausa, speaking on Wednesday, May 27, while hosting children from different schools and backgrounds, alongside disability advocate and actress, Dera Osadebe, at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters in Abuja, as part of activities marking the 2026 Children’s Day celebration, described Children’s Day as a reminder of the country’s responsibility to invest in the future of children through education, well-being and equal opportunities.
A statement by his media aide, Ikharo Attah, said the event was organised to amplify the voices of Nigerian children and reinforce national efforts toward inclusive education and child development.
Speaking during the event,
“Today is about celebrating the strength, creativity, and limitless potential of our children. Every Nigerian child deserves to feel seen, heard, encouraged and supported to achieve their dreams, regardless of background or circumstance,” the minister said.
Alausa commended Osadebe for promoting awareness and inclusion for children living with disabilities and autism, noting that her advocacy continues to inspire conversations around empathy and equal opportunities.
He stated: “Dera’s courage and passion reflect the resilience and brilliance that exist in millions of Nigerian children.
“Her voice continues to inspire important conversations around inclusion, empathy and equal opportunity for every child.”
The minister noted that the celebration aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises child development, inclusive education, youth empowerment and expanded access to quality learning opportunities nationwide.
While urging Nigerian children to remain confident, nurture their talents and contribute positively to society, he assured them of government’s support in creating an enabling environment for learning and growth, adding: “Children are at the heart of our nation’s future, and we must continue to create opportunities that allow them to learn, grow, and succeed.”
In Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, while felicitating children across the state, called on parents, guardians and caregivers to prioritise the protection, proper guidance and education of every child in the state.
Oborevwori, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, stated that children remain the future of society and must be provided with an enabling environment to grow, learn and realise their full potentials.
He urged parents and guardians to remain committed to nurturing children with sound moral values, quality education and adequate protection from all forms of abuse, exploitation and neglect, noting that every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare and opportunities that would prepare him or her for responsible adulthood and leadership.
Oborevwori restated his administration’s commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving the wellbeing of children across the state, saying the state had domesticated the Child Rights Protection Act to strengthen legal safeguards for children and ensure the protection of their rights and welfare.
The governor also highlighted the state government’s commitment to free education at the basic and secondary school levels, describing education as a critical tool for empowering children and securing a brighter future for the state.
He said his administration continues to provide free medical treatment for children under the age of five, alongside affordable contributory healthcare programmes designed to ensure wider access to quality healthcare services for families across the state.
He disclosed his administration’s determination to continue investing in initiatives that would promote child development, education and healthcare, in line with his administration’s MORE Agenda, urging children in the state to remain focused on their education, be law-abiding and strive towards becoming responsible citizens who would contribute positively to the growth and development of Delta State and Nigeria.
“Children are precious gifts and the future leaders of our society. We must all work together to ensure they are protected, educated and guided properly to become responsible and productive citizens,” he stated.
