2027: Resign By March 31 If Contesting Elections, Oborevwori Orders Political Appointees

DELTA State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed all his political appointees wishing to participate in the forthcoming party primaries or seek nomination for any elective office in next year’s general elections to resign their appointments by March 31, this year.
The directive affects all categories of political appointees, including commissioners, dvisers, directors general, executive assistants, senior Special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants in the state.
The affected appointees are required to submit their formal resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to State Government (SSG) not later than March 31, and hand over to the permanent secretary or the most senior career officer in their Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
A statement signed by the SSG, Kingsley Emu, said the directive was pursuant to the provisions of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable recently released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for party primaries ahead of the elections, urging all concerned to take note of this directive and ensure strict compliance.
