THE court-reinstated Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Mr. Emeka Beke, has confirmed that the 27 lawmakers who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join APC in December last year are indeed still members of his party.
Beke, who was on Monday, August 12, reinstated by a Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt, after declaring the Chief Tony Okocha-led Caretaker Committee illegal, gave the confirmation while speaking to journalists after the court judgment.
He said that Martin Amaewhule and the 26 other lawmakers loyal to the former governor and current Minister of the Federal capital territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, were valid members of APC in Rivers State.
Beke also announced that his party would participate in the forthcoming local government election in the state.
He lauded the judiciary for upholding democracy in Nigeria, especially concerning his removal from office before the end of his four-year tenure by the national leadership of the party.
Recall that the state executive of the party led by Beke was dissolved by the APC National Working Committee (NWC), presided over by the National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, in November last year over the allegation of anti-party activities during the general election.
