2027: Delta APC Vows Issue-Based Electioneering

Published:

THE Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has promised peaceful, decent and issue-based campaign ahead of next year’s general elections, with focus on development, empowerment, job creation and improved security.

Chairman of the campaign council’s Media and Publicity Committee and Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, gave the assurance ahead of Thursday, November 5, campaign flag-off at Oleh Township Stadium in Isoko South Local Council.

Aniagwu, flanked by other committee members, said Oleh was chosen because of its strategic location and accessibility to residents across the three senatorial districts, after a state campaign rally in Ozoro, Isoko North Local Council, and would proceed to local government areas for direct engagement with residents.

Aniagwu said APC would not be distracted by political controversies, but would concentrate on presenting its achievements and development plans to voters.

He highlighted Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda and the proposed MORE Plus programme, which seeks to expand investment in infrastructure, economic empowerment, job creation and private-sector development.

He stated the administration’s determination to consolidate its road and bridge projects, while creating an enabling environment for businesses and industries to thrive.

The commissioner cited the groundbreaking ceremony of Olam Agri’s animal feed mill in Ogwashi-Uku on Wednesday, expected to be completed within one year, to support poultry and fish farmers, create a market for agricultural produce and generate over 1,000 direct jobs, as evidence of the administration’s efforts to attract investments.

Aniagwu said the provision of roads, bridges, security and other critical infrastructure remained essential to attracting investors and sustaining economic growth, even as he defended the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu, citing local government financial autonomy and federal infrastructure investments as developments creating opportunities for governments to deliver more projects.

He, however, acknowledged the economic difficulties facing Nigerians, urging patience with the reforms.

Aniagwu said APC would rely on persuasion, mobilisation and sustained engagement, rather than make unrealistic promises about its expected votes, expressing confidence that direct interaction with the electorate would secure significant support for the party’s candidates.

He assured that APC would respect the rights of other political parties to campaign peacefully, as the democratic space and security of the state belonged to all residents.

He charged journalists to provide balanced and factual coverage of the campaign, assuring them that the party’s media committee would maintain regular engagement with the press throughout the electioneering period.
